If You Know The History: 16th June 1987 Murdo MacLeod signs for Borussia Dortmund

In the 1980s, it was still quite rare for Scottish footballers to head for foreign shores to ply their trade. However, the shackles were coming off and towards the latter half of the decade, three Celts obviously made their minds up to try something different.

On this day in 1987, for instance, after 394 appearances and 81 goals in the Hoops, Murdo MacLeod signed for Borussia Dortmund. Only a fortnight later, Mo Johnston, whose Celtic career encompassed 71 goals in 127 matches, signed for Nantes; while on 13th June 1990, ex-Celt Alan McInally, having spent the three previous seasons with Aston Villa, joined Bayern Munich.
