Celtic and Rangers were neck and neck for the top spot in the league campaign of 1967/68 when the teams ran out at Celtic Park on this day in 1968 in front of a crowd of 75,000 for the big match of the New Year period.
Celtic were represented by Fallon, Gemmell, Cattenach, Brogan, McNeill, Clark, Johnstone, Murdoch, Hughes, Lennox and Auld; Rangers fielded Sorensen, Johansen, Greig, Jardine, McKinnon, D Smith, Penman, Watson, Hynd, Johnston and Persson.
Jimmy Johnstone tormented the Rangers defence all through this match. Bertie Auld opened the scoring in the 18th minute and Willie Johnston equalised in the 55th.

Twelve minutes from the end, Bobby Murdoch scored what every Celtic fan thought was the winner but Rangers fought back and a speculative shot by Kai Johansen squirmed under the body of John Fallon to give his side a share of the points.
