If You Know The History: 13th November

13th November 1956 Jimmy Walsh to Leicester

Inside-forward Jimmy Walsh joined Celtic in 1949 from Bo’ness United, making his first-team debut against Hibs in April 1951. Jimmy missed out on the Scottish Cup Final of May 1951 and also the tour of North America which followed but he did make the team which won the St Mungo Cup at the start of the following season, getting a hat-trick against Raith Rovers in the semi-final and then scoring the winning goal when Celtic beat Aberdeen 3-2 in the final at Hampden.

Jimmy played in all three games of the Coronation Cup tournament in 1953, scoring the clincher against Hibs in the final again at Hampden and was a great help in Celtic winning the league championship in 1953/54, although he missed out on the semi-final and final of the Scottish Cup because of injury as Celtic did the double. He was also in the side which lost to Clyde in the Scottish Cup Final of 1955.

On this day in 1956, after 144 appearances and 59 goals, Jimmy Walsh was transferred to Leicester City, whom he captained in the FA Cup final of 1961 against Spurs.
